Doctor's Appointment

4.28.2009
So we had our 18 week check up today and although it ended up being pretty uneventful it started off pretty anxiety provoking. When we first got there I had to get my blood pressure and weight checked. The nurse who was working with me asked if I had felt the baby move and I said "no, not yet" (which is pretty typical from what I've read for a first timer). She responded by saying "nothing...at all?" and when I said no again, she said, "oh, I'll be right back"...and scuttled away as if something was wrong. She then proceeded to put us in a room and check for the baby's heartbeat. So she puts the Doppler against my belly and we hear noise, but no heartbeat. Of course at this point I am starting to panic a little inside. So without saying anything she leaves and comes back with the doctor who proceeded to go through our charts and look for anything high risk. After a few moments he comes over and uses the Doppler to find the heartbeat...again nothing! Luckily this time, the doctor points out that the Doppler is broken and not picking up any sounds from my belly. The doctor then switches to a different Doppler machine and presto....baby heartbeat! Of course he made sure to let us listen to my heartbeat too which was raised due to my anxiety ; ) The doctor was great and very laid back, so the appointment ended up going well, but man it would have been nice if the nurse would have told us she thought the machine may be broken rather than let us think the baby had no heartbeat : ) Oh well...in the end everything was fine...so no worries! Our big ultrasound is this Friday. Damon and I are still unsure as to whether or not we will find out the sex...but either way I will be posting the newest pictures of our little baby....so stay tuned! : )
