So, two weeks ago Damon and I worked a bit on transforming the guest room into the nursery. Originally we had a queen sized bed in the room which took up a majority of the space, so my parents graciously volunteered to store the mattress at their house in Oviedo until we need it again in the future. Which means when we eventually move into a bigger house we won't have to spend more money on a new mattress...yay! The furniture in the room is my old childhood furniture from my Great Grandma Stella, which Damon and I refinished last summer. Here are some of the pictures from the "old guest room":
To make more room for a crib, but still have room for guests, Damon and I decided that a daybed would be our best bet. Being low on funds we decided to go ahead and search craigslist for the furniture. We were lucky to find a bed frame and a pop-up trundle from to different posters without damaging our wallets and then we headed over to Ikea, where we had a gift card, to purchase 2 new mattresses. We also put the desk in the closet to use as the changing table and took off the closet doors, adding drapes instead for easier access (desk not shown in pictures because we had already moved it to the closet). Now there is plenty of room for baby : )
So, at that point the only thing we were missing was art work. I had some old framed pictures in the garage of cocktails and bar scenes that I had set up in my single days (when I actually had a bar in the house). We weren't planning on using them again, but I hadn't given them away because I felt like I could probably use the frames in the future... PERFECT! So I looked online to get some ideas of artwork, because we were working within a navy blue & white color scheme and I wanted some more color, but it still had to be gender neutral...so I found some cute ideas and "borrowed" the creativity from another artist. I used construction paper to make the prints and in the end we ended up spending $0 on the artwork. Here is what I ended up doing:
We are very happy so far with our results. We obviously still have some additions to make such as the crib and some additional baby items, but we will add those as it gets closer to the date of arrival. For now, it is a perfect place for guests.
looks great, love the artwork :-)
