Savannah

This past weekend Damon and I had our last road trip before the baby comes. We went to Savannah, GA for the weekend to attend a friend of Damon's wedding. We drove up early on Saturday morning and got into town in time to check in, grab some delicious lunch, and walk around for just a bit. We then headed back to the hotel to get ready for the wedding. Unfortunately, we didn't end up taking any pictures at the wedding because Damon forgot our camera in the car. The wedding itself was very nice and the bride and groom made a very handsome couple. We went to bed early that night so that we could get up early and visit the Bonaventure Cemetery, which had been suggested to us by our really hospitable hotel ambassador.

Before heading over to the cemetery we grabbed breakfast at the Firefly Cafe, where we had a tasty breakfast. After our meal we walked around the square taking some quick pictures and noticed a beautiful Unitarian Church, where services were about to begin. Since Damon and I attend the Unitarian church back home, we decided it would be neat to check out the service in Savannah....and we are so glad we did. It was beautiful inside and the service was great. Afterwards we headed over to the cemetery to take some pictures.

The Bonaventure Cemetery is massive! There are probably over 5,000 graves there. It is the cemetery that was featured in the movie (and cover of the book) Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil. There are tons of massive gravestones and monuments. It falls somewhere between beautiful and really creepy.

After the cemetery we headed back home making a pit stop in Jacksonville to grab dinner with a good friend. Overall it was a great trip and we are really looking forward to a future opportunity to get back for a longer trip.

  1. Great pictures Jess.

Savannah is probably top 3 as one of my most favorite cities. Next time you go, do the ghost hearse tour at night. You won't be disappointed!
